HIT Network Key Informant Interviews

Rural health networks play a crucial role in improving health care and supporting the adoption of health information technology (HIT) in rural communities across the country. To better support rural health networks focused on supporting their members through their HIT adoption and implementation, the National Rural Health Resource Center conducted a series of key informant interviews with successful rural HIT networks across the country. Nevada Rural Hospital Partners (NRHP) was established in 1987 by Nevada’s small hospitals to focus on solutions to the issues and challenges facing rural facilities. Over the years, NRHP has grown into a stable and mature horizontal network with a voice that speaks for rural hospitals. Owned by hospitals, NRHP offers a wide variety of programs and services aimed at helping to ensure the viability of their members by advocating at the legislative and regulatory levels, reducing cost, generating savings, enhancing quality, sharing resources, and expanding the use of technology.
The RWHC Information Technology Network (RWHC ITN) is a 501(e) Cooperative whose mission is to provide community hospitals and their affiliates with health information technology (HIT) applications and support services that promote high quality, cost effective healthcare. Owned by its participants, the RWHC ITN fulfills this mission by implementing and supporting a number of collaborative HIT applications, including a hospital information system (HIS) provided by Healthcare Management Systems (HMS).
Founded in 1997, SISU is a consortium of 18 medical facilities located throughout Minnesota working together to share information technology resources. Their Mission is to provide cost effective information technology to provider based health care organizations.
The TORCH Foundation is a nonprofit affiliate of the Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals (TORCH). The organization was founded in 1999 for the purpose of creating a telecommunications infrastructure and network for rural hospitals in Texas. Over the years, the Foundation has evolved to meet the ever growing needs and challenges of its members. Today, their vision is to be a premier resource center for rural Texas hospitals and to serve as a leader and catalyst for improving quality healthcare delivery in rural communities.
