Mid-Nebraska Telemedicine Network
Twelve sites have joined with Good Samaritan Health Systems to creat the MNTN network. The Mission of the network is to develop a flexible multi-use system that will improve access to quality care by providing consultation & treatment in both routine & emergency situations and increase educational opportunities for both providers and the community.

Nebraska Public Service Commission
This site provides information such as hospital notifications forms, service provider forms, and reimbursement forms for telehealth.

Nebraska Statewide Telehealth Network
The Nebraska Statewide Telehealth Network (NSTN) provides the opportunity for all hospitals and public health departments in the state to connect, provide access to consultations with medical specialists, continuing medical education, and transmission of digital clinical information. Connections between hub hospitals and connecting rural hospitals were initiated in August 2004.

Nebraska Health Information Initiative
The Nebraska Health Information Project was conceived in order to promote the enhancement of state health data and to assist in the development of state health data systems.

Western Nebraska Health Information Exchange Network
The Western Nebraska Health Information Exchange Network project is a complementary extension of the Regional Health Records for Nebraska 's Panhandle project that is bringing together hospitals, clinics, public health, and behavioral health to create the organizational and technological infrastructure for health information exchange.


Grant Funded HIT Projects
2007 USDA Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Recipients
October 1, 2007 . Acting Agriculture Secretary Conner announced the selection of 78 grant recipients for Distance Learning and Telemedicine grants totaling $22.3 million in 31 states. The Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) grant program was created to improve access to education and medical services through the use of technology. Of the grants announced today, 38 will provide access to medical services and 40 will be used to improve educational opportunities. The grant funds will be awarded to the selected recipients contingent upon meeting the conditions of the grant agreement.


Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) HIT Grants
In September 2004, the Agency for Health care Research and Quality (AHRQ) awarded $139 million in contracts and grants to promote the use of health information technology (health IT) through the development of networks for sharing clinical data as well as projects for planning, implementing, and demonstrating the value of health IT. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) HIT Implementa
HHS' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) today announced the award of more than $22.3 million to 16 grantees to implement health information technology (health IT) systems to improve the safety and quality of health care. These projects will contribute to AHRQ's capacity to learn from health IT implementation in clinical settings and to use the results from these real-world laboratories that are crucial to moving forward with broader implementation of health IT in American health care.


FCC Funding for Rural Telehealth Networks: Heartland Unified Bro
The Heartland Unified Broadband Network project is expanding and enhancing an existing network to increase the use and quality of teleradiology and increase distance education activities throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.


Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Telehealth G
In 2005, HRSA administered 159 telehealth/telemedicine projects. Of those, 92 were awarded funds totaling more than $34.9 million. Projects receive funds in one of four ways: The Telehealth Network Grant Program, Rural Telemedicine Grant Program, Congressionally Mandated Projects, and Special Projects.


NLM Knowledge Management & Applied Information Grants
Grants to health-related and scientific organizations that wish to optimize the utility of clinical and research information.NLM anticipates making 8-10 new awards each year, spending approximately $4 million per year to support new awards in this program.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Award to Match Grants
Over the next three years, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Local Funding Partnerships (LFP) will continue awarding matching grants of $200,000 to $500,000 to highly collaborative, innovative projects working to solve some of the most intractable health problems for vulnerable populations in the U.S. Application Deadline: July 8, 2008

Thayer County Health Services receives $1.6 Million Grant
In order to develop this electronic system, the grant project will focus on Thayer County Health Services and their circle of local health care partners in Thayer County and surrounding communities in Nebraska and Kansas.

HIT Survey Information
Nebraska's Reponses for the 2006 TASC HIT Survey
The Technical Assistance and Services Center (TASC) surveyed 45 Critical Access Hospitals in Nebraska to identify their use of HIT. All of the CAHs have at least six beds (swing and acute not including DPU) with 24 of them have 25 beds. A summary of the survey is as follows:
  • 49% of hospitals have a formal IT plan
  • 89% have funding included in their budget for purchasing information technology
  • 11 of 45 hospitals said they have their clinicians use handheld computers/ PDAs
  • 7% of nurses use PDAs
  • All hospitals have internet (93% high-speed, 20% wireless, 4% dial-up)
  • 69% of hospitals said they have encrypted secure e-mail access for all staff to protect patient confidentiality
  • 100% have computerized claims submissions and patient billing
  • 98% have computerized payroll
  • 91% have computerized registration and admission
  • 9 hospitals use bar-coded patient identification bracelets
  • 78% do not use electronic medical records to track patient history
  • 11% keep physician's notes and 13% keep vital signs records in electronic format
  • 38% of hospital pharmacies have computerized allergy and drug interactions and 42% have computerized dose recommendations
  • 31% of hospital pharmacies have an automated medication dispensing machine
  • 4% of the hospitals use telepharmacy
  • 49% have computerized clinician review of raiology results
  • 40 out of 45 hospitals use teleradiology technology to transmit images electronically
  • 19 out of 45 hospitals use telemedicine to consult with clinicians at other sites regarding patient diagnosis and/or treatment
  • 62% of the hospitals transmit EKG tracings electronically to clinicians at other sites
  • 38% of hospitals do not share clinical data with selected other departments within the hospital
  • 23% of hospitals surveyed have physician offices or clinics connected electronically to the hospital's information system
  • 33% have long-term care facilities connected electronically to the hospital's information system
  • 22% of the hospitals share clinical data electronically with other hospitals
