DRCHSD Finance Series: Understanding Critical Access Hospital Economics

Session Description: This presentation is geared towards CAH senior management to help decision-makers better understand rural hospital financial performance and the linkage between finances and service delivery.  Beginning with the premise that all CAH employees are in the “business” of providing health care services to patients, this presentation reviews both theories and specific financial tools essential to improve departmental and organizational performance.  Specific areas addressed include the basic CAH economic framework and how to use it to evaluate the financial impact of critical decisions made at the senior level.

Time: Thursday, July 21st from 11:00 – 12:00 pm CST

Speaker: Eric Shell, CPA, MBA Stroudwater Associates

Learning Objectives:

  • Better understand fundamental CAH economics and the relationship between volume, costs, and profit
  • Better understand CAH inpatient and outpatient volume and impacts on profitability
  • Better understand how to evaluate profitability related to non-cost-based services

Invitations will be sent out to participants prior to the date of the event. If you have any questions contact Caleb Lozinski or Nick McRae.
