Event Details
Friday, November 22, 2013
National Rural Health Resource Center (The Center)

  • Terry Hill, Senior Advisor for Rural Health Leadership and Policy, National Rural Health Resource Center
  • Bob Schapper, Chief Executive Officer, Tahoe Forest Hospital District

Terry Hill and Bob Schapper discuss the Blueprint for Performance Excellence developed by The Center to aid hospitals in managing the complexities of the changing healthcare environment. The Center assembled national rural health experts (including Terry Hill and Bob Schapper) in a Summit meeting to create a Blueprint for Performance Excellence modeled after the comprehensive, systems-based Baldrige performance excellence framework. This Blueprint for Performance Excellence includes critical success factors in the seven Baldrige components and outlines how each component is inter-linked. Use of a systems-based performance excellence framework, such as Baldrige, provides a proven comprehensive systems approach to help rural hospitals manage the crucial elements of organizational excellence desperately needed in this rapidly changing environment. Mr. Schapper uses the Baldrige framework at Tahoe Forest District Hospital.

Note: The Blueprint for Performance Excellence is applicable to all rural hospitals (CAH and PPS).
