Selection Process

The IBH Readiness Assessment was used to identify the hospitals readiest to receive technical assistance from the pool of applicants. CAHs were selected to receive technical assistance based on the following criteria:

  1. The strength of organizational and operational structures as indicated by the responses on the IBH Readiness Assessment (188 points possible)
  2. Completion of the technical assistance needs for integrating behavioral health (1 point)
  3. Completion of essay questions (5 points possible per question for a total of 30 points) and included items such as “Using five bullet points, describe what you are currently doing to address behavioral health in your community. Include information on depression or anxiety screenings, if applicable.”
  4. The selection committee awarded CAHs with one point if their county indicates high percentages of behavioral health needs, such as a high Medicare population with depression (1 point)

The general information section of the application consisted of required fields that were not used in scoring the applications, but may influence selection to obtain diversification of selected CAHs. Criteria and scoring were clearly communicated to all applicants prior to the application process.
