HIE Direct Guide

The Direct Project is a set of standards, protocols and services that enable simple, secure electronic transport of health information (push messaging) between health care participants. Any two participants, organizations or communities without a central governance structure can implement the Direct Project standards and services. This guide to Direct connectivity standards is designed to assist health care providers in understanding and implementing health information exchange using Direct protocols. The guide includes descriptions of technologies used, a glossary of terms and recommendations on implementing Direct.
