Indiana State Flex Program

What is one Core Competency your state Flex Program is working on developing through Flex activities?

Selected Core Competency: Addressing Community Needs

In Indiana, we provide education, share the best practices, and learn from peers on the MBQIP (Medicare Beneficiary Quality Improvement Project) Core measures for all CAHs (Critical Access Hospitals). We conduct bi-monthly webinars and an in-person event.
We have also started conducting trauma informed care onsite education program for 10 CAHs. We  expect our CAHs to gain useful information from the education program and begin developing a traumatic-informed care implementation action plan.

What is one activity your state is funding through SHIP?

The Indiana SHIP (Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program) offers three different training programs to address the needs of the participating hospitals. These programs focus on the topics of ICD-11 readiness and preparedness, social drivers of health, and quality simulation training. Indiana offers this variety to be able to meet several quality improvements needs within the hospitals. A noteworthy accomplishment has come through our training program focused on social drivers of health. A group of our hospitals are owned by a large healthcare system. When the local rural hospitals shared the information they were learning through this training, the corporate healthcare system asked their SHIP hospitals to participate in the health system’s SDOH (Social Determinants of Health/Social Drivers of Health) Network Committee; sharing what they learned through SHIP.
