Core Competency: Understanding Policies and Regulations

There are a variety of ways policies and regulations can impact rural health facilities and care delivery; these changes may come at a local, state, or federal level. While state Flex Programs are not expected to know and understand every bit of legislation that is brought forward, it is good to be aware of trends and new approaches. Having a pulse on policies and regulations helps programs to better understand what providers and health systems may currently be up against, how changes could impact their function, and can encourage preparedness as there may be increased communication with partners to share resources
