Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC), a 49-bed, perspective payment hospital located in Fort Kent, Maine, was one of six organizations selected to participate in the 2022-2023 Rural Health Provider Transition Project (RHPTP). Speare Memorial Hospital (SMH), a critical access hospital located in Plymouth, New Hampshire, was one of six organizations selected to participate in the 2022-2023 Rural Health Provider Transition Project (RHPTP). SMH has seen RHPTP’s impact on their improved organizational culture and overall patient experience and is a wonderful example of a health care organization utilizing existing resources to bolster their many strengths and recent goals. Effectively transitioning to a VBC payment system can be a challenge for many HCOs, therefore, State Offices of Rural Health (SORH) can be particularly vital partners in helping connect clinics and hospitals with additional tools, resources, and a valuable local perspective. Guadalupe County Hospital  (GCH) is a 10-bed, not-for-profit, Sole Community Hospital providing acute care, emergency medicine, imaging, pain management, laboratory, and related outpatient ancillary services to the residents of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, and the surrounding communities.

The March Virtual Knowledge Group (VKG) covered program management through a finance lens and addressed such topics as implementing programs at the hospital level, finances post-public health emergency (PHE), and workforce challenges.

The Lawrence County Health Department (LCHD) is a public health department offering behavioral, environmental, public, and home health services to the residents of Lawrence County, IL, and surrounding communities. Engage and network with other state Flex Programs. Participate in a shared discussion about things that make working in rural health care special. Share the importance of fulfillment from our work in rural health care, especially during times of stress, change, and uncertainty.

Identify promising practices other state Flex programs have implemented in their states. Recognize activities state Flex programs can support to ensure critical access hospitals (CAHs) in their state are prepared for the transition to value-based payment models. Develop next steps needed to implement programs and services related to building capacity towards population health.

This Flex Virtual Knowlege Group webinar focused on an engaging networking opportunity with content focused on "What does working in rural health care mean to you? Why is it important? What are our hopes for the future of rural health care?"

Identify contract management best practices and tips they can use for their Flex Program subcontracts or managing the life cycle of their QI project. Recognize how other Flex Coordinators troubleshoot contract management issues to improve office efficiencies and project outcomes.

Identify examples of non-traditional partnerships that can be beneficial in for state Flex programs. Discuss how to establish partnerships within state Flex program work.
